Short answer
3D printing earns its keep on small plastic objects that are sold at a markup, made in the wrong size, or no longer manufactured at all. In practice that means desk and cable organisers, kitchen and bathroom holders, wall hooks and mounts, board-game accessories, pet gear, personalised gifts, and replacement parts for things that broke.
It is a poor choice for load-bearing or high-heat parts, long-term food contact, transparent optics, genuinely elastic parts, and anything bigger than a build plate. Most of the good stuff costs ₹100–₹1,000 to print.
What is 3D printing good at?
One rule covers most of it: print the thing that does not exist in the size you need. Mass manufacturing is unbeatable on identical objects made a million at a time. It is terrible at making exactly one of something, in your dimensions, with your name on it. That gap is where printing wins.

The highest-value category, because desk accessories are simple shapes sold at absurd markups. Anything that holds, angles, or hides something works well.

Replacement parts - the most underrated use
The single best reason to own a printed part is that you cannot buy it. Appliance makers sell you a whole assembly, or nothing. A ₹60 print routinely saves a ₹6,000 appliance.

- Remote-control battery covers
- Fan and cooler blades, grille clips, and vent louvres

What you should not 3D print
Being straight about the limits saves you a wasted order. FDM printing is genuinely bad at these:

Can you 3D print replacement parts for appliances and furniture?

Are 3D printed items food safe?
Treat FDM prints as not food safe for repeated use. The layer lines trap residue that is hard to clean, so items such as cookie cutters and spoon rests should be treated as dry, short-contact, hand-wash-only. Do not use printed items for hot food, in a dishwasher, or in a microwave.
Can you 3D print something and sell it?
It depends on the licence of the model. CC0 models can be sold freely, CC-BY models require crediting the designer, and CC-BY-SA requires credit plus sharing derivatives under the same terms.
